GET TO

know me.

First, I’m a freelancer. You probably already guessed this since you came to this site with some sort of purpose. Read below to find out how I got to be where I am today.

Education.

EAstern Illinois University

I encountered some pretty great professors during my career at EIU. I took a wide variety of art classes, but my most memorable times were spent with my small graphic design compatriots (some of whom I still keep in contact with today). This is where I received my B.A. with an emphasis in Graphic Design (and creativity in ramen noodle cuisine).

Corporate Work Experience.

I was fortunate enough to get a job right out of college as the first graphic designer for the local park district. That may not sound very glamorous, but I worked with great co-workers and was able to establish the position and the day-to-day duties that went with the role. I created marketing pieces that advertised programming in addition to designing the quarterly program catalog. This not only meant coordinating with all departments for content, but working closely with the printer to find ways to make the book affordable while still looking great.

After a few years, I was hired by a hobby company where I had the pleasure of working on their quarterly catalog. I worked closely with my two other teammates to layout the sections, direct photography for any new product shots I might need for my layouts, and prepare for press. After a year or two, I found myself across the cubicle section in the branding department where I transitioned into working on advertisements and packaging design.

My last corporate venture was at Taylor Studios where I worked as a graphic designer creating exhibit panels and wall graphics for museums and nature centers. To say this job was exciting would be an understatement. I learned so much about the design process in addition to learning about each topic I was designing for. There were times where I was juggling a Civil War museum in Arkansas, a Lewis and Clark exhibit in North Dakota and a nature center on the Pennsylvania all in the same week. Projects I worked on included graphics that corresponded with a lit-up topographic map, a flip-book detailing historical letters, and a layered timeline with a mural, figure cutouts and information panels.

Freelancing

My first freelance project was in 2004 and I've never looked back.

Even as a corporate designer, I was taking on freelance projects on the side.

Stepping out on my own was a huge gamble, but it’s definitely paid off. I love the excitement of getting a new project. Everything that comes through my door has it’s own challenges and rewards. Nothing is the same. One week I might find myself designing logos for start-ups and the next it may be a sell sheet for a different client.

Let's Meet.

Now that you know more about me, let’s talk about your next project. I’d love to hear from you.
